Bawumia Eulogises Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s Indigenous Innovation and Philanthropy

Accra: Former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has paid glowing tribute to the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, highlighting his pioneering work in indigenous innovations and inspiring an industrial spirit in Ghanaians. Dr. Bawumia emphasised Apostle Safo's dedication to improving the lives of the less privileged through numerous philanthropic endeavours.

According to Ghana News Agency, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, the Founder and Leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission, died on Thursday, September 11, 2025, as confirmed by family sources. Dr. Bawumia expressed his condolences, stating, 'On behalf of my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the Kristo Asafo Mission, and all who mourn this irreparable loss.'

Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka was born on August 26, 1948, in Bom, Ashanti Region. He studied engineering at the Ghana Technical Works Institute, now known as Kumasi Technical University, and later trained as a welder. He founded Kantanka Automobile, a Ghana-based automotive company producing vehicles like the Kantanka Omama SUV and Onantefo pickup truck. In 1998, he developed Ghana's first locally made engine using 75 percent indigenous parts.

Apostle Safo also created voice-controlled appliances, solar-powered technologies, and an electric car prototype. His innovative designs extended to musical instruments, including guitars, drums, and amplifiers, as well as the KTK O2 light helicopter.

As a religious leader, Apostle Safo founded the Kristo Asafo Mission, integrating faith with technology, agriculture, and philanthropy. He received national and international honours, including the Order of the Volta in 2007, the Grand Medal of Ghana in 2000, and the Millennium Excellence Award in 2005.

Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka passed away at the age of 77, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, faith, and service. Dr. Bawumia expressed hope that his legacy will inspire future generations to believe in domestic solutions and serve their communities.
