ATU Final-Year Students Dazzle with Fashion Exhibition Celebrating African Heritage

Accra: The Accra Technical University auditorium on Tuesday witnessed a display of ingenuity as final-year students from the Fashion Design and Textile Department took the stage to showcase their creative designs. The fashion exhibition is on the theme: 'Promoting African Heritage: Our Pride, Our Passion'.

According to Ghana News Agency, the exhibition showcased student work, including designs, crochet, batik, tie-dye, and footwear, alongside pieces from the School of Ordinance of the Ghana Armed Forces, affiliated with the university. Dr. Emma Donkor, the Head of Department, Fashion Design and Textiles at ATU, highlighted that the designs were created by 419 graduating students of the department.

Dr. Donkor elaborated that each student produced four outfits. Due to space constraints, each student displayed the best piece of their collection at the auditorium, while the remaining three outfits are scheduled to be showcased on Friday, August 15, at the National Theatre for a fashion show. She expressed her satisfaction with the designs, noting, "So far so good. I think they have brought out their competencies and skills very well."

The exhibition provided an opportunity for students to express their unique concepts, as Dr. Donkor explained, "Each student also comes out with their concepts, so everybody has what is in her mind he thinks he wants to depict when it comes to clothing, and that is exactly what you saw in there." She advised the students to take their profession seriously and be good entrepreneurs, emphasizing the importance of starting from a humble beginning before expanding their ventures.

Professor Amevi Akpokavi, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, commended the students for their innovative works. He encouraged them to continue showcasing their best abilities and aim to be recognized among the giants in fashion design. "You are the real signatories to your creative designs," he remarked, urging the students to strive for excellence in their future endeavors.
