Esiama: Mohammed Adamu, a suspect of a robbery gang, is assisting the police with investigations into a gold shop robbery attack on July 30, 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, police intelligence led to the arrest of Adamu, 25, whose name was mentioned by another suspect: Abdul Rahman, now deceased. Rahman died at the hospital after getting wounded in a gun battle between the gang and the police.
A press statement signed by Superintendent of Police, Olivia E.T Adiku, Head of the Western Regional Police Command, stated: "The Police in Esiama on July 30, 2025 at about 1730 hours responded to a distress call that armed robbers wielding AK 47 rifles and machetes were attacking a gold buying shop at Teleku Bokazo in the Western Region."
The police patrol team proceeded to the scene and were informed that the robbers, numbering about six, had fled and were heading towards Salman Community. The police pursued them, leading to an exchange of fire, and in the process, one of the robbers, later identified as Abdul Rahman, 34, who sustained serious injuries, mentioned one Mohammed and others as his accomplices.
He was subsequently sent to the St Martin De Porres Hospital for treatment but died shortly on arrival. "His body has been deposited at the Hospital's morgue," the statement said.
On-the-spot investigations conducted revealed that the robbers, numbering about six, entered a gold shop, shot and inflicted cutlass wounds on the two shop attendants. The police visited the St. Martin De Porres Hospital and met the victims on admission: Samuel Appiah, 29, with cutlass wounds on his right thigh, and Kwamena Nketiah, 45, shot in the thighs.
During a search, seven spent AK47 Assault Rifle shells, one live AK 47 ammunition, two BB cartridges with spent shells, an empty case of BB cartridges, and two motorbike keys were retrieved. The Western Regional Command assured the public of efforts ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects to face justice, the statement said.
