Ashanti PURC Collects GHS80,628,623.30 as Revenue for Utility Service Providers

Kumasi: The Ashanti regional office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has successfully collected a total of GHc 80,628,623.30 in revenue for utility service providers in the region during the third quarter of 2025. The Commission has also facilitated the recovery of GHc 426,291.55 from utility service providers as refunds to consumers.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Richard Asiedu, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations and External Affairs Officer of the Commission, highlighted these achievements in an interview in Kumasi. These efforts were realized through the Commission's complaints resolution mechanism, aimed at addressing consumer grievances. The Commission received a total of 509 complaints against the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Water Limited (GWL) during this period, successfully resolving 269 of them.

Furthermore, the PURC played a crucial role in the replacement of nine faulty electric poles, seven faulty transformers, and 10 defective meters in the Ashanti region. The Commission also facilitated eight new service connections after prolonged delays and ensured the repair of several burst pipes.

Mr. Asiedu emphasized PURC's commitment to ensuring that utility companies deliver services effectively and uphold fairness, transparency, and improved service standards. He reiterated the Commission's dedication to regulating utility companies and safeguarding consumer rights efficiently.
