Apostle Kwadwo Safo ‘Kantanka’ Passes On at Age 77

Accra: Apostle Kwadwo Safo, the esteemed founder of the Kristo Asafo Church, has passed away, as confirmed by a family statement issued on Sunday, September 14, 2025. His death occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025, according to the statement signed by Ms. Sarah Adwoa Safo, his daughter and a former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya.

According to Ghana News Agency, Apostle Safo, widely known as 'Kantanka', was recognized for his achievements as a technological innovator, philanthropist, agriculturist, and industrialist. The family described him as 'a true genius, the beacon of hope for many, a father to the fatherless.'

The statement highlighted that his unique persona was shaped by 'his life struggles, dreams, resilience, courage, determination, and dedication to his calling and conviction.' It further noted, 'Ghana has indeed lost a gallant son and a true legend.'

The family has requested that the public respect their privacy during this time of grief, with burial and funeral arrangements to be announced in due course.

Born on August 26, 1948, in the Ashanti Region, Apostle Safo founded the Kristo Asafo Mission in 1971, a religious organization known for extensive philanthropic efforts. He also established Kantanka Automobile in 1994, officially commencing vehicle production in 1998.

The Kristo Asafo Church has approximately 137 branches across Ghana, as well as international branches in Togo, Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany, Canada, and the United States.
