Anas Aremeyaw Anas Secures Legal Victory Against Kennedy Agyapong in Defamation Case

Accra: Anas Aremeyaw Anas, the Executive Director of Tiger Eye PI, has declared that his legal battle against Kennedy Agyapong has been a pursuit of truth and justice rather than monetary gain. This statement comes in light of a recent court ruling in the Essex County Superior Court in New Jersey, where the investigative journalist emerged victorious in a defamation case against the former Assin Central MP.

According to Ghana News Agency, Anas expressed satisfaction with the court's decision, emphasizing that no allegations against him were proven during the trial. The jury found Kennedy Agyapong liable for malicious defamation, resulting in an initial multi-million-dollar settlement awarded to Anas. The court's decision to award $18 million in favor of Anas highlighted the severity of the defamation.

Following the jury's decision, Kennedy Agyapong filed a motion for remittitur, requesting the judge to reduce the substantial amount awarded. Anas pointed out that this motion inherently acknowledged the malicious defamation. In a recent development, the trial judge granted Agyapong's motion, reducing the initial award to $500, acknowledging the defamation but deeming the original compensation excessive.

Despite the reduction in the monetary award, Anas remains resolute in his mission against corruption. He reaffirmed his commitment to continue exposing corrupt practices, emphasizing his determination to "name, shame, and jail" those involved in corruption.
