2025 International Youth Day Clean-Up Campaign in Sunyani: Institutions Join Forces for a Cleaner Capital

Sunyani: Five institutions have jointly undertaken a clean-up campaign in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital, to rid the area of filth as part of the activities marking the 2025 International Youth Day (IYD).

According to Ghana News Agency, personnel from the Global Media Foundation (GloMeF), ActionAid Ghana (AAG), Citizens Watch Ghana (CWG), Young Urban Women, NGOs, and the National Youth Authority (NYA) participated in the event. They desilted choked gutters, picked up waste and containers, and swept the principal streets of the capital.

Mr. Simon Asore, the Executive Director of CWG, stated that the campaign aimed to highlight the contributions of the youth towards national development. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of the clean-up exercise, Mr. Asore explained that the IYD is commemorated annually on August 12, bringing youth issues to the attention of the government.

He emphasized that the day celebrates the potential of youth as partners in today's global society. The global theme for the 2025 celebration, 'Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Future,' focuses on empowering the youth to help build a better planet for all. "This year's theme focuses on taking action for a greener and fairer world," he stated.

Mr. Yaw Osei Boateng, a Programme Officer at the Bono Regional Office of AAG, shared that the celebration would culminate in a Bono Youth Summit on climate change and youth leadership. The event will be held at the main campus of the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani on Tuesday, August 12, to highlight and sensitize youth groups on climate change mitigation and adaptation actions.

Mr. Nabila Alhassan, the Bono Regional Accountant of the NYA, mentioned that the Authority had set aside the entire month of August, partnering with relevant state and non-state actors, to observe the IYD and highlight the potential of the youth. He added that the NYA has been spearheading national youth development and encouraged young people to visit the Authority's offices to take advantage of their youth-oriented programs to improve their lives.
