ZIMBABWE’S RULING ZANU PF PARTY ALL SET FOR ANNUAL CONVENTION

All preparations are complete for Zimbabwe’s ruling party, Zanu PF, to hold its 16th National Annual Peoples’ Conference this week, says party Secretary for Administration Dr Ignatius Chombo.

This year’s conference, being held under the theme, “Moving ZimAsset in peace and unity”, is taking place in Masvingo, about 300 kilometres south of here, from Wednesday to Saturday.

Chombo told journa;ists after the 305th ordinary session of the party’s highest decision-making

body, the Politburo, that preparations for the conference are complete.

“All supporting infrastructure including power and communication systems as well as water supply are in order and functional. Accommodation and transport for the delegates are also in place.”

Chombo said the Politburo was briefed that the party had dealt with all disciplinary cases. “Two members had their suspension uplifted, seven had their suspension upheld and one was expelled and six had their cases referred to the National Disciplinary committee for further deliberation. This means there is no longer any case before the appeals committee, all have been attended to,” he said.

At least 7,000 delegates have so far been accredited to attend the annual party conference, which is expected to focus on revival of the economy, particularly implementation of government policies, service delivery as well as tackling factionalism within Zanu PF.
