ZICTA sues mobile firms

THE Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has sued three mobile phone service providers for alleged poor service delivery to customers.
ZICTA has sued Airtel Networks Zambia, MTN Zambia and Zamtel.
The regulator says the criminal proceedings instituted were meant to protect public interest because the three companies were allegedly failing to meet minimum standards of quality service provision.
“The authority has resolved to take remedial measures relating to enforcement of quality service in order to protect public interest in pursuant of the Information and Communication Technologies Act No.15 of 2009,” said ZICTA public relations manager Ngabo Nankonde in a statement in Lusaka yesterday.
Ms Nankonde said the deteriorating levels of quality of service had made communication difficult and had resulted in increased public outcry.
This, she said, had a negative impact on ease of doing business in Zambia.
