Zambians were excited after changing Stadium name – Kambwili

Government says the Heroes National Stadium which is currently under construction in Lusaka will be handed over in October this year.

Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili said 80% of the works on the over 50,000 capacity stadium has been done.

Kambwili told Parliament Tuesday July 16, 2013 in a Ministerial statement that government has gazetted the stadium which will now be called National Heroes Stadium.

The Minister who admitted receiving wide criticism after giving it the name Gabon Disaster National Stadium decided to change it and gave it the new name. He testified that the change of name brought excitement among Zambians.

The Minister said the change of name shows that the Patriotic Front is a listening government saying that is how things should always be.

And in responding to a follow up question from Rufunsa Member of Parliament Kenneth Chipungu who is also Former  Sports Minister on why government decided to change the name after the previous MMD government gave it Lusaka National Stadium after the former headman Lusaaka, the Minister said there was no notice and that is why the PF changed the name.
