ZAMBIAN PRESIDENT TO ATTEND COMESA SUMMIT IN MAGADASCAR

President Edgar Lungu is expected to attend the Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA) Summit of Heads of State & Government Summit in Antananarivo, Madagascar, on Tuesday.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba said here Sunday that President Lungu would join his counterparts from the COMESA region to discuss ways to strengthen regional integration and enhance industrialization among other issues.

Kalaba, who attended the 36th Meeting of the Council of Ministers over the weekend, ahead of the summit, said in a statement received here that the Council of Ministers had approved the Medium Term Strategic Plan for 2016 – 2020 for the grouping.

He said the Plan was expected to contribute to structural transformation of the economies of the COMESA member States to foster overall economic development through trade, investment and regional infrastructure development.

Kalaba also disclosed that the Chinese Yuan and the Indian Rupee would be included in the Regional Payment and Settlement System operated by the COMESA Clearing House as a mode of payments to enhance trade.
