ZAMBIAN GOVT SAYS MEDIA REPORTS ON WITHCRAFT ARE FALSE

LUSAKA– The Zambian government is disappointed with false media reports suggesting that it will consider research on witchcraft as a science which can be used productively for the benefit of the country, says the Chief Government Spokesperson, Kampamba Mulenga.

The reports are blatant falsehoods on allegations coming from people who have nothing good to offer to the nation, Mulenga said here Tuesday.

She said that she was aware that there is a group of people spreading malicious statements through various media platforms, bent on destroying the government’s image. She added that these people were so preoccupied with throwing salvos that they were blind to what Government is doing to uphold Zambia as a Christian nation.

Contrary to the allegations, she said, President Edgar Lungu’s administration has and will always uphold Zambia’s status as a Christian nation, as enshrined in the preamble of the Constitution.

She says the establishment of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and National Guidance and the declaration of h Oct 18 as a National Day of Prayer and fasting are some of the ways in which the Patriotic Front Government is upholding the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation.

Mulenga said it is common knowledge that Christianity and witchcraft are poles apart and cannot co-exist.

It is therefore absurd to suggest that the government wants to consider research on witchcraft as a science.
