ZAMBIAN CIVIL SERVANTS TO BE GIVEN FARMLAND

LUSAKA, The Zambian government plans to start allocating farmland to civil servants in farming blocks across the country, says the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, David Shamulenge.

The move is aimed at encouraging civil servants to form co-operatives and earn extra income through agro-business ventures, he said Monday.

Dr. Shamulenge was speaking when he called on Central Province Permanent Secretary Edidge Mutale in Kabwe.

He said weekend farming was being promoted across the developed world to ensure that people do not go in farming only after retirement.

Dr. Shamulenge has directed his staff developing the policy on farmland distribution to civil servants to submit the document to him by Dec 31, 2015.
