ZAMBIAN ANTI-GRAFT COMMISSION PROBES SPORTS MINISTER

LUSAKA, June 9– Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) says it has started investigating Sport and Youth Minister Chishimba Kambwili regarding advertisements which appeared in two daily newspapers recently congratulating him for obtaining a degree.

Kambwili is alleged to have instructed the Ministry to congratulate him over the degree he obtained from Copperstone University resulting in them placing advertisements in the Times of Zambia and Zambia Daily Mail newspapers.

ACC Spokesman Timothy Moono said here over the weekend that the commission did not have to get permission from President Michael Sata to investigate his Cabinet ministers, and only needed to inform the appointing authority for administrative courtesy.

Moono also said the commission has recorded a warned and caution statement from Pambashe Member of Parliament Ronald Chitotela, and Mwansabombwe MP Rodgers Mwewa in connection with allegations of abuse of authority and misappropriation of Constituency Development Fund monies in their respective constituencies.

Moono said the investigations had in these cases had reached an advanced stage but did not divulge further detail.

Moono also said that investigations regarding the abuse of office against former Cabinet Office Permanent Secretary Anna Mwewa had similarly reached an advanced stage.
