Zambia should emulate China’s culture of hard work – Chikwanda

FINANCE minister Alexander Chikwanda says China’s culture of hard work and commitment to the country inculcated in the people by legendary Mao Zedong has resulted in its dramatic growth.

Chikwanda on Monday held a meeting with Shenzhen City mayor Xu Qin, where he disclosed the Zambian government’s desire and commitment to replicate the Chinese model of the multi-facility economic zones, which is now a success story.

Two economic zones are being developed in Zambia by the Chinese – one in Chambishi on the Copperbelt that will focus on adding value to the country’s mineral resources while that of Lusaka will cover the services and textiles sectors, among many others.

In commending China’s rapid economic growth, Chikwanda told Xu that the Asian country’s success also needed to be credited to Mao’s cultural revolution, which inculcated in the Chinese people the importance of believing in themselves, resulting in the people of China being the country’s greatest asset.
