Zambia joins Africa to celebrate African Freedom Day

Zambia today joins the rest of the world in commemorating the 50th anniversary (Golden Jubilee) of the African Union.

In Zambia, a number of programmes have been lined up to mark this very important day in the continent.

Republican Vice President, Guy Scott this morning led several diplomats, defence and security chiefs, freedom fighters and government officials in laying wreaths at the Freedom Statue at the Government complex.

The Vice President later in the day starting at 10:00 hours lead the national celebrations to mark this day at the Show grounds which is the official venue of this year’s celebrations.

The African freedom day golden jubilee is being celebrated under the continental theme of “Pan Africanism and African renaissance”

Zambia’s first republican President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda is expected to be honored by the African Union today in Ethiopia.
