Zambia helping China reduce unemployment, says Sata

PRESIDENT Michael Sata says Zambia is helping China reduce its unemployment rate through award of contracts for projects to Chinese companies.

During a meeting with the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) chairman Yu Zhengsheng yesterday, President Sata said Zambia and China had common social problems such as unemployment.

“We have so many things in common”unemployment and many more and Zambia is helping China to reduce unemployment by giving you so many projects,” he said.

A couple of Chinese companies, among them China Geo Corporation and China Henan International, are currently involved in infrastructure projects such as road construction.

And the TAZARA was a turnkey project financed and executed by China.

Construction began in 1970 and was completed in 1975, two years ahead of schedule, at a cost of about US$500 million, making it the largest single foreign-aid project undertaken by China at the time.
