Zambia: Court Orders Ministers to Vacate Office, Refund Salaries

The Constitutional Court has perhaps delivered its first real blow by ruling that cabinet ministers vacate their offices with immediate effect and payback the salaries and allowances drawn during the period after the dissolution of parliament.

Making a ruling on a case that was brought before it by the Law Association of Zambia the Constitutional Court ruled that the ministers’ mandate ended on the day the house was dissolved.

The decision by the Constitutional Court cannot be appealed.

Ministers held on to their offices after the dissolution of parliament and may now have that awkward cross with the law.
