Zambeef products results tests postive of Aldehyde – Health Minister

The samples on Zambeef products that were taken for tests in South Africa have come out positive of Aromatic Aldehyde, Health Minister Joseph Kasonde has revealed.

Kasonde said the samples that were taken for further testing have confirmed the presence of the chemical Aromatic Aldehyde in the meat samples.

The Health Minister told parliament on Thursday July 18,2013 that the chemicals were found present in hooves and other internal beef products commonly known as offals. He added that samples collected from some outlets also confirmed the presence of the use of the chemicals.

Dr. Kasonde stated that the chemical, Aldehyde is not one of those chemicals recommended for use to preserve meat products in the country. He said the Ministry will take an appropriate action on Zambeef.

Meanwhile Dr. Kasonde has revealed that the 13 Capital fisheries trucks which were ceased recently have been released after been found ok. He said the Ministry has meanwhile intensified checks on the meat products to ensure they are fit for human consumption.

Government had directed the withdraw of meat products that were suspected to contain the chemical and tests  carried out in Zambia and it also sent samples to South Africa for an independent findings
