You are making govt unpopular, Police Deputy IG tells RTSA

There was drama in Lusaka over the weekend when Deputy Chief of Police Solomon Jere stormed a Traffic Check Point mounted by Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) and told them that their operations was making the PF government unpopular.

RTSA had mounted the Check Point around Munali area on Great East Road to conduct their regular checks on motorists who drive while drunk. But Dr Jere who arrived at the Check Point around 10pm ordered RTSA to stop the operations immediately especially that there was no presence of the Police.

But RTSA Chief Executive Officer Zindaba Soko refused to oblige saying the Officers were operating within the provision of law. He said there is no law that forbids RTSA from conducting check-ups without Police.

Dr. Jere insisted that there was no way RATSA would carry such operations without the Police presence saying if there was anarchy how would they handle it. He ordered for the arrest of RATSA Officers and summoned their CEO to his Office.
