YALI urges technical committee to respect people’s wishes

YALI has urged the technical committee drafting the Zambian constitution to respect people’s wishes when coming up with the final draft constitution.

Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) democracy and governance specialist Isaac Mwanza said the institution was greatly concerned that in spite of decisions reached by majority Zambians during the 82 districts and 10 provincial consultative conventions on key issues in the first draft constitution, the National Constitution Convention of less than 500 Zambians disrespected the wishes of the majority thereby continuing with the country’s bad trend “where the minority impose their decisions on the majority when coming up with final provisions of the constitution”.
