We have not lost anything by losing Mkaika says PF govt

The Patriotic Front government says it has not lost anything by losing in September 5, Mkaika by-election that was scooped by opposition MMD with a landslide.

MMD’s Peter Phiri beat the PF candidate David Phiri who caused the by-election by over 7, 000 votes.

Acting Government Spokesperson Fackson Shamenda said the MMD was defending Mkaika constituency despite that the former Member of Parliament was re-contesting the seat on PF ticket. He said the MMD had merely retained the seat with another candidate and the PF had not lost anything.

Shamenda however congratulated the MMD for wining the seat saying the results goes to show that the PF respects democracy contrary to reports that have been going on that it intends to turn the country into a one-part-state.

And President Michael Sata has congratulated the MMD saying the people of Mkaika have expressed their choice of the leader they want to represent them.  President Sata during a campaign rally in Mkaika said he could not beg for the people in that constituency to vote for the PF candidate.

Meanwhile messages of congratulations to MMD have continued with opposition UPND saying the victory was well deserved and a warn to those inciting by-elections. Deputy Spokesperson for UPND Cornelius Mweetwa said his party was happy with the resounding victory by MMD.

MMD Deputy National Secretary Chembe Nyangu described the win as a sweet victory for the opposition while his boss Nevers Mumba thanked the people of Mkaika for rejecting the PF.
