Water crisis, Kitwe residents resort to dirty water in shallow wells

Residents of  Kitwe’s Chimwemwe township on the Copperbelt province have complained about the erratic supply of water in the area.

The residents talked to, today (Tuesday), September 17, 2013, complained that due to erratic supply of water they were now forced to draw water from shallow wells.

“The situation is very bad, we have gone for about three days without water, we are now forced to draw water from shallow wells, this is very bad and we fear that there might be an outbreak of a water borne disease in the district if the situation is not urgently addressed,” complained one the residents Sydney Mwila.

But Nkana Water and Sewerage Company, Public Relations Manager Damaseke Chibala said the problem was as a result of the breakdown of a water pump at Bulangililo pumping house.

He however, said that the water utility company is working around the clock to control the situation.
