Water crisis hits Kalomo, over 100, 000 people affected

About 111, 000 people are faced with water crisis in Kalomo District of Southern province following the bursting of Kalomo dam.

The dam that supplies water to about 11, 000 people in Kalomo urban and over 100, 000 in surrounding areas has burst following days of continuous down-pall.

Southern Water and Sewage, the firm in-charge of supply of water in the province says it has no capacity to rebuild the dam and has since appealed to central government to quickly come in. The matter is being treated as a disaster and the provincial administration has since communicated to the Vice President’s Disaster Management Unit.

Director of Operations at Southern Water and Sewage Charles Shindali announced that the situation needs urgent attention though he says temporal measures have been put in place to have the supply to town.
