UPND wins first seat on the Copperbelt

Opposition UPND has won its first seat on the Copperbelt province.

The UPND candidate Brian Chitafu  in Kafulafuta polled 2, 504 closely followed by ruling Patriotic Front (PF)’s James  Chishiba with 2, 407 while NAREP’s Jimmy Kasabwa managed 329 with MMD’s Eva Mwanawasa trailing with 32 votes.

The election took place on July 25, 2013 following Chishiba resignation from MMD to join PF.

The UPND are also reported to have won Solwezi East in North Western province seat that was held by MMD while PF won Mkushi North in Central province.
