UPND takes lead in Solwezi and Kafulafuta, MMD Chipata, PF Mkushi

Opposition UPND claims that it is leading in two of the four by-elections that took place July 25, 2013.

Vice president Canicius Banda told Zambian Eye that partial results counted so far put his party ahead in Solwezi East and Kafulafuta constituencies in North Western province and Copperbelt provinces respectively.

Dr. Banda also said their fellow opposition party – MMD were ahead in Chipata Central while the ruling Patriotic Front took lead in Mkushi North.

Chipata Central results from 22 polling stations; MMD 4,255  PF 2,776  UNIP 234  NAREP 43 and INDEPENDENT 14.  Kafulafuta from 14 polling stations; UPND 1,631  PF 1,589  NAREP 291 and MMD 27.

And Officials declare that they had taken a wide lead and are set to win in Mkushi. PF is said to be leading with 3, 287, while the MMD is in distance third with 1, 104 with UPND following with 814, while NAREP trails with 287 votes.

The votes are still being counted although only a handful of results from the poling stations are yet to be announced in Mkushi.

Official Results are expected to be announced on Friday morning, July 26, 2013.
