UPND petitions Mpongwe poll results

THE UPND yesterday announced that it has petitioned the Mpongwe by-election results.

Speaking on Radio Phoenix’s Let the People talk programme yesterday, UPND deputy secretary general Kachunga Simusamba said his party had petitioned the Mpongwe by-election results in order to establish that the PF cheated in the by-election.

PF candidate Gabriel Namulambe emerged winner of the by-election and UPND’s Rabson Chilufya emerged as his closest rival.

“Democracy is costly, if you go in an election and you are cheated, are you just going to sit and say ‘we have been cheated it is costly to prove that we were cheated?’ I don’t think that is right. We have to establish that we were cheated and the courts of law are our recourse,” Simusamba said.

Simusamba claimed the police failed to enforce the electoral code of conduct in order to advantage the PF.

“In Livingstone the police were even grabbing campaign materials of the UPND, so this is what we are saying.
