UPND Member Acquitted of Rufunsa Killing

The Lusaka High Court has today acquitted a United Party for National Development (UPND) member who was accused of murder.

High Court Judge Dominic Sichinga this morning acquitted Isaac Zulu who was accused of murdering Menyani Zulu a Patriotic Front cadre in Rufunsa during a ward by-election in November 2012.

The case has been highly politically charged, as the death of the young man was immediately followed by a condemnation by President Michael Sata against the UPND, directly blaming them of the violence. However subsequent investigations revealed that Menyani Zulu was likely killed by other PF cadres in a dispute over money.

Judge Sichinga who has been transferred to Kitwe but sat in Lusaka today said the state had failed to prove the case and that the evidence adduced in court was not collaborated.

Isaac Zulu who was at the material day employed as a driver to Siavonga UPND Member of Parliament Kennedy Hamudulu was represented by Gilbert Phiri of PNP Aocates and Martha Mushipi.

Meanwhile, Police in Kitwe have picked up a decomposed body along the Kafue river suspected to be the body for Bishop Nyondo who was reported to have committed suicide.

The Police have since summoned some family members to late Bishop Nyondo to identify the remains.
