Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has charged that his party has become the first one to hold a public rally going against all odds by the PF regime that has been baring political meetings since coming into office in 2011.

Addressing thousands of his supporters who thronged Mutambe grounds in Mandevu Constituency, Hichilema declared that today’s rally marked the beginning of UPND many more rallies to be held across the country.

He thanked his supporters and party officials for being brave and ensured that the rally was held despite two attempts earlier by suspected sponsored PF thugs who stormed the venue and started stoning people.

The suspected PF thugs were however defeated by some UPND youths who fought back and pushed the thugs from the venue. One of the Youths narrated during the rally how they defeated the suspected PF thugs who then retreated.

HH urged his supporters to remain strong and resilience to defend their rights to assembly which is a every citizen’s right. He has called on all political parties to follow suit and start holding public rallies.

“This rally is live on 16 Radio stations and one of them is an International based in UK. The World today have known that UPND has broken the PF Public Order Act. To all political parties, I am allowing you to go and have rallies,” said HH amid ululations from thousands of his supporters.
