TIZ wants President Sata to fire Masumba

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has welcomed the conviction of Sports Deputy Minister Steven Masumba and has since called on President Michael Sata to fire him.

“We urge President Michael Sata to immediately dismiss the convicted Hon. Steven Masumba from his deputy Ministerial Position,” demanded Goodwell Lungu the Executive Director at TIZ.

Masumba who is also ruling Patriotic Front Member of Parliament for Mufumbwe constituency was Monday, November 18, 2013 convected by the Magistrate Court for forging an Accountancy  certificate from NIPA so he could get employed.

Reacting to the ruling, TIZ said this was a good boast to the graft fight.

“We believe this sends a good signal in the fight against corruption that even serving Ministers can be brought before the law and made to account,” TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu said. “It is very rare in Zambia to have a serving Minister convicted of a criminal offence. We commend the Lusaka Magistrate Courts for dispensing justice without fear or favor.”

Lungu has advise the Patriotic Front leadership to always lead by example and to be accountable for their actions and remain above board all the time and learn from Masumba’s conviction.
