Student shot, others injured during riots

Reports reaching  Zambian Eye indicate that a student has been shoot during the riots at the University of Zambia (UNZA) on Wednesday night.

One of the students only identified as Chinyama alleged that the student was shot at by Police and was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital.

The student also claimed that a number of students were also injured in the fracas where students were protesting over the delayed meal allowances.

Chinyama  has also accused the police of being trigger happy by shooting at the students. He claimed that the students were matching peacefully before the Police started firing teargas at them.

The students wondered why the Police have continued to use live ammunition even after police and Zambia National Service shoot dead people  in Kampasa, Chongwe while another was injured in Ndola.

He also alleged that some Patriotic Front cadres were also spotted carrying weapons and helping the police beat up the students
efforts to get official comments from the students representative on the shooting  proved futile.

Rioting students broke at the UNZA Great East Road Campus after government delayed to give them their meal allowances.
