South Africa: Several Suspects Arrested for Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition and Dagga in in Steenberg

On Thursday, 22 September 2016 at 23:30 members of Operation Combat acted on information about firearms in St Boniface Street, Lavender Hill. Two suspects, a 23 year old female and a 30 year old male suspect were found in possession of a Smith & Wesson .38 Revolver with a serial number and six .38 special rounds of ammunition. The suspects were detained for the Illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and will appear in Wynberg Magistrates court on Monday, 26 September 2016.

During the early hours of Friday, 23 September 2016 at about 01:30 members of Operation Combat received information about a firearm at a house in Canute Street, St Montague Village. It was communicated to the members that the suspect fired several shots earlier. Members followed up the information and on their arrival they noticed a shotgun bag against the door frame. One of the members opened the bag and found a Wembley Short shotgun with wooden butt with a serial number with three red 12 gauge live rounds of ammunition inside the bag.

They conducted a further search and found a blue ribbon bread plastic on top of the sofa. This bag contained 10 stoppe of dagga. The suspect, a 39 year old man was arrested and is due to appear in Wynberg Magistrates court on Monday, 26 September 2016.
