President Michael Sata has dismiss as baseless insinuation by United Party for National Development President Hakainde Hichilema that government is planning to manipulate the draft to extend the Presidential term from the current five to eight years.

The President said his government has no such intention which he described as retrogressive and selfish. He has since advised Hichilema to conduct himself in self introspection and assess if his endless slander, pessimism and bitterness was adding value to the political discourse.

He accused the UPND leader of lacking civility and basic decency saying he is only interested in harming mature rational and constructive discourse on important matters affecting the country. President Sata said to the contrary his government wants to give the opposition a chance to test their popularity after five years.

He said he has strong conviction that that the Zambian people will judge his government based on the unprecedented
infrastructural development which he has undertaken.

On inducing by elections to have dominance in parliament the President said it is the opposition that are causing this because they do not allow their Members of Parliament to serve in government without intimidation. He said his administration is promoting inclusive and co-existence with everyone who wants to contribute to the development of the country to stimulate social and economic development.

This is according to a statement by President Sata’s Special Assistance for Press and Public Relations, George Chellah. The President was reacting to allegations by Hichilema where he was quoted as saying Government is planning to increase the term of Presidency from five to eight years
