Rupiah was late for Kenya trip – Kapeya

FORMER president Rupiah Banda yesterday failed to travel to Kenya for the inauguration of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Banda was scheduled to depart for Kenya aboard a Kenyan Airways flight at 11:05 hours local time from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

However, President Kenyatta’s inauguration ceremony kicked off at around 10:00 hours.

The Zambian government said Banda was late for the inauguration of President Kenyatta way before he could even step foot on the plane to Kenya.

Information deputy minister Mwansa Kapeya yesterday wondered what could have been Banda’s motive to fly to Kenya even when he knew very well that he was late and would have found the ceremony long over.

According to Kapeya, the Government Joint Investigative Team had been keeping Banda’s passport as part of the police bond conditions in his ongoing corruption and abuse of office cases.
