Riot looming at UNZA

Students at the country’s highest learning institution, the University of Zambia (UNZA) might take to the street if government does not pay them their  K630.00 meal allowances.

According to information reaching Zambian Eye from the University, the student are keenly waiting for resolution between University Management, Student’s body and Government which will be held on Wednesday July 10, 2013 to decide the next course of action.

The students who  rioted over the same issue of delayed payment of allowances last week have still not gotten their money. And newly elected  University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) President Steven Kyengula  who featured on Radio Phoenix on Tuesday also confirmed that the students Union would be meeting government over the student’s allowances on Wednesday.

He said depending on the results of the meeting the Union will relay the information to the student as it would be. He observed that the issue of bursaries committee has been a thorn issue  and needs a lasting solution to be solved.

Kyengula has meanwhile reiterated that his committee is seeking the best ways of addressing problems at the country’s  highest learning institution. He observed that students have been going to the streets and rioting because of leaders failure to address them and has promised a new way of addressing problems.
