Renard Praises Kondwani Mtonga

Zambia Head Coach Herve Renard as praised the performance of Zesco United midfielder Kondwani Mtonga.

According to MTN Football, the the Coach said the Zesco player has performed beyond expectations for Zambia.

Renard said the 27-year-old has since making his Zambia debut in the April 28 friendly against Zimbabwe in Lusaka shown enough consistency to challenge any foreign-based regular for a place in the starting 11.

“I am very impressed. He has the right profile,” Renard said about the late-bloomer.

“Game after game he has never disappointed me. I think he is really ready for the international level.”

Renard thrust Kondwani into the deep end in last month’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Group D qualifiers when he replaced then injured Stopilla Sunzu in central defence against Lesotho and Sudan.

The Zesco defensive midfielder has so far played seven matches for Zambia and was part of the team that won the 2013 COSAFA Cup on July 20 when they beat Zimbabwe 2-0 in the finals at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

And Kondwani is currently part of Zambia’s 2014 CHAN qualifiers team that hosts Botswana on August 3 in a first round, return leg tie in Ndola.

The two teams are levelled at 1-1 from the first leg meeting played on July 27 at Molepolole.
