Register your dogs, DC tells Chipata residents

Chipata District Commissioner (DC) Kalunga Zulu has called on residents in Chipata district to register their dogs in the ongoing registration of dogs to curb the uncontrollable stray dogs.

Mr Zulu said the local authority in conjunction with the veterinary department in the district have embarked on dog registration following concerns from residents over stray dogs.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Zulu made the call in an interview in Chipata district , yesterday.

He  urged dog owners to also vaccinate them against disease such as rabies.

The DC observed that there has been growing population of stray dogs in the area which has led to numerous dog bites.

“Stray dogs that have continued to pose a threat to pedestrians, I want to appeal to residents to register their dogs,” he said

Mr. Zulu said the exercise would run for two weeks saying it will attract a fee of K65, 00 for the vaccine and a dog chain.

He however warned that failure by dog owner to abide by public health act 65 and 67, the authority would have no choice but put down any dog found roaming the streets of town to safeguard the lives of the people.

He stated that there is need for dog owner to secure their pets within their yard from 05: 00 hours to 22:00HRS
