Zambia National Team Midfielder Rainford Kalaba is one of the nominees for the top Africa Award under African Player of the Year based in Africa.

Kalaba who plays for TP Mazembe in Congo is the only Zambian player who was been named for the Top Africa Annual Awards organized by Confederation of African Football (CAF).

He is among the 20 players selected from different clubs in Africa. Tresor Mputu of Congo DR and Mbwana Samatta of Tazania are the two other players from TP Mazembe short listed for the Award.

Other notable players on the list for Africa Player of the Year based in Africa are Mohamed Aboutrika of Egypt, Sunday Mba of Nigeria and
Idrissa Kouyate of Cote d’Ivoire.

Notable names listed for Africa Player of the Year are Manchester City’s Ivorian Yaya Toure who is defending the title, his country mate Didier Drogba now based in China at Galatasaray and Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan playing for Al Ain.

CAF released the list of nominees for the 2013 African Player of the Year and the African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) on November 15, 2013.  There are 25 players short listed for the flagship African Player of the Year category, and twenty-one (21) for the African Player of the Year (Based in Africa).

The winners will be announced at the Glo-CAF Awards Gala scheduled for Thursday, January 9, 2014 in Lagos, Nigeria.

Ivorian Yaya Toure is the reigning African Player of the Year and Mohamed Aboutrika of Egypt for the African Player of the Year (Based in Africa).
