Prof. Chirwa attempts to sneak out of Zambia

Embattled suspended Zambia Railways Limited Chief Executive Officer Clive Chirwa on Tuesday tried to sneak out of country but was intercepted by alert Immigration Officers at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

He was told to go home as there was no clearance for him to leave the country.

Prof. Chirwa is under investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission. The Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed the development in Lusaka today. In a normal situation, Prof. Chirwa was suppose to inform the ACC or appointing authority whom he knows well about his intention to leave the country.

Home Affairs Spokesperson says this has created suspension as what Prof. Chirwa’s intentions were. Moses Suwale has advised Prof. Chirwa to seek permission from ACC or appoiting authority if he wants to leave the country as he is still being investigated.

“The Ministry of Home affairs therefore wishes to advise prof Chirwa to get clearance from the ACC or relevant authorities if he so wishes to leave the country unlike sneaking out of the country,” said Suwali, the Head of Public Relations.

He said Prof. Chirwa was not being harrased or persecuted but was expected to follow the right procedure adding that the Ministry of Home Affairs had the duty to protect properties and assets on behalf of Zambians.
