President Sata launches Decentralisation Policy

SataPresident Michael Sata this morning led hundred of Lusaka residents in cerebrating 100 hundred years of Lusaka City.And the President has also launched the national decentralisation policy.

And speaking at the joint event at the Lusaka Civic Centre Grounds on Tuesday, the President revealed that the Patriotic Front (PF) got its all manifesto from the former ruling party the United Nation Independence Party (UNIP).

He said the decentralisation policy started with UNIP under President Kenneth Kaunda and it this policy which the PF is following. Speaking at the joint event, Sata urged the local authority to go out and implement the programme and not just end in theory.He notes that the city has evolved over from a bush in the 1900 to now a great city.

He added that Lusaka has been a haven of piece in the region which also sheltered many people from within the region who were fighting for struggle for independence. President said the launch of the decentralisation policy also showed the PF commitment in devolution.

And speaking at the same event Lusaka Mayor Daniel Chisenga bemoaned the negative perception of residents in keeping a clean environment. Chisenga has called for re-establishment of the garden city concept which was the its original concept.
