Polley calls for mutual respect between opposition, govt

THERE must be mutual respect between the opposition and the party in government, says a visiting Australian legislator Senator Helen Polley.

In an interview, Senator Polley said mutual respect between the opposition and the government was key in advancing developmental projects.

“There are important issues for instance where you have to take coordinated action with other countries; you just have to put away your differences to ensure the best outcome. The needs of the community must be put first and it’s about having respect for each other’s points of view and trying to find that common ground,” she said.

Senator Polley said as a person in the government, she appreciated the critical role the opposition plays to ensure transparency.
