Emmanuel Chilekwa who was until September 23, 2013 Personal Assistant to opposition Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ) leader Frank Bwalya has resigned.

Chilekwa resigned in an unceremonious manner and the Zambian Eye is still investigating what could have led to his abrupt resignation via a letter posted on Fr. Bwalya’s Facebook wall.

He is one of the ABZ leaders who has been so close with Fr. Bwalya from the time he announced the formation of ABZ when he appointed him as Personal Assistant.

Who is Chilekwa? Chilekwa is a journalist by profession, he owned and run a Newspaper called The People between 1999 and 2002.

The Newspaper which was printed on pink newsprint was closed after it published a story that then President Levy Mwanawasa was suffering from Parkinson disease. Chilekwa and his three journalists were arrested and detained for over six weeks at Kamwala Remand Prison.

In the process of  trial, Chilekwa confessed that he was being used by some politician and apologized to the Head of State for the story. The state then dropped the charges, a development that left the Newspaper without credibility and closed in 2002.

Chilekwa then disappeared from public life and only resurfaced in the run-up to 2011 elections where he was one of the sympathizers of the PF. After the PF won elections he is one of those that were not given jobs.

He has been very critical of the PF and Michael Sata’s administration and a strong supporter and believer that Fr. Bwalya is the next President of Zambia.

This is one of the status on his facebook wall posted September 13, 2013:
To all doubting Thomases on who the next President will be, here are some facts, take it or leave it:
1. Kenneth KaundA,
2. Frederick ChilubA,
3. Levy MwanawasA,
4. Rupiah BandA,
5. Michael SatA,
6. Frank BwalyA
Reading PSALM 75 verse 6 which says, “For promotion cometh neither from the East, nor from the West, nor from the South”. So, obviously, anyone from the NORTH is in the front row.
And why pick on Fr. Frank Bwalya? + Even the vehicle registration marks read “ABZ” + Public Service vehicles colour strip is ORANGE (the ABZ party colour) + The Orange is colour for Lusaka – the SEAT of government What more evidence do you wish to know?

Below is his resignation letter posted on Fr. Bwalya’s facebook wall:

Dear Father Frank Bwalya,

I wish to thank you for the opportunity of serving you as your Personal Assistant, which you announced on Radio Phoenix on May 3, 2013.

However, I regret to inform you that I do not wish to continue, purely for personal reasons and in the best interest of my Christian faith and beliefs, noting that parameters, beliefs, ideals, vision, values and mission which spoke to my conscience five months ago, seem to have been relegated to the backyard.

From this moment, I humbly request that I continue with my ordinary and private life. I thank you for the confidence and chance of serving you as I wish you the very best in your pursuit of your political agenda for Zambia.

Yours faithfully,

Emmanuel Chilekwa,
