Former president Banda’s lawyer frightened

Former president Rupiah Banda has been warned and cautioned by a Joint Investigations Team over the acquisition of Baobao land in Lusaka’s Makeni area.

And Muvi Television reports that Banda’s lawyer, Sakwiba Sikota has described his client’s questioning this morning at the DEC offices as a spine chilling experience. He says the interrogation of his client which involved questioning a private meeting he held with a named President has left him frightened.

Banda who was questioned today for about two hours is alleged to have had the influence in the acquisition of the land by his lawyer Sakwiba Sikota who jointly owns it with his Egyptian business partner.

Spokesperson for the Joint Investigating Team Namukolo Kasumpa confirmed that a warn and caution statement had been recorded though she could not give details apart from saying Banda will be summoned back on the date to be agreed  with his lawyers.

Banda has already been arrested and he is appearing in court on the alleged abuse of office and oil deal charges following the removal of his immunity from prosecution.
