Police in Lusaka Monday afternoon warned and cautioned former Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba popularly known as GBM.

The caution is on on eight counts involving offences allegedly committed between April 1 and November 30,  2012.

Later Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga Chanda told Journalists at Woodland Police station that facts of the offences are that whilst Acting as Republican President as per government gazette notice No. 238 of 2012 of April 25, 2012, Mwamba allegedly committed the offence of disobedience of Statutory Duty contrary to section 126 Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Ms. Chanda said Mwamba is also alleged to have abused his Authority of office contrary to section 21 (1) (a) and (b) of the Anti-Corruption ACT No. 3 of 2012 by directing and influencing the award of a contract for supply and delivery of 9, 10 and 12 meter wooden poles to ZESCO Limited on a one year running contract to Arizona Marketing and Distributors in which Company he was a Director and Partner.

As Director and Partner of Arizona Marketing and Distributors, Mwamba is further alleged committed three counts of uttering a false document contrary to section 352 Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia involving Manufacturers Authorization, Company profile and Pole specifications to Zambia Public Procurement Authority and ZESCO purporting they were issued by Board Timbers Limited of Zimbabwe when in fact not, Ms. Chanda said

Ms Chanda said the Police has warned and cautioned Mwamba  for two counts of making a false document contrary to section 344 of Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia namely a company profile for Border Timbers and Poles specifications purporting that they were issued from Border Timbers Limited when in fact not in his capacity as the then Director and Partner of Arizona Marketing and Distributors.

In the last count Mwamba is alleged to have forged two manufacturers authorization documents contrary to section 342 of Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia purporting that they were issued by Border Timbers Limited when in fact not.

The Police Spokesperson said investigations into the matter have continued adding that Mwamba through his lawyer Makebi Zulu asked for more time to study the charges against him.

And speaking after the probe, Mwamba said he is not shaken by the warn and caution statement recorded on him by the Police.

Mwamba arrived at Woodlands Police station in company of his wife Chama, legal team that included Makebi Zulu, Martha Mushipe and Jonas Zimba.

Some opposition senior officials who turned up to give the former Defence Minister support were MMD Chairman Kabinga Pande, opposition ABZ leader Fr. Frank Bwalya, UPND Deputy Spokesperson Edwin Lifwekelo and a number of opposition law-makers from Northern province.

A horde of his placards-carrying supporters stormed Woodlands Police Station.

Mwamba recently resigned his Ministerial position after a difference with President Michael Sata but he still serving as Patriotic Front (PF) Kasama central Member of Parliament.
