Police lock-up former president Banda’s Son, Andrew

Son to Zambia’s former President Rupiah Banda, Andrew has been arrested and detained by the Police.

Andrew was arrested Thursday, July 25, 2013 for allegedly having defamed President Michael Sata during his campaigns in Chipata ahead of today’s by-election.

The former president’s Son who also served as Diplomat in India during the MMD reign was arrested immediately after appearing in court where he is being tried for corruption.

By press time Thursday evening, it was not yet established which Police Station Andrew was being detained in Lusaka.

The Police in Lusaka has however confirmed Andrew’s arrest though they say the matter was being handled by their colleagues in Eastern province where the offense is said to have been committed.

During the campaigns Andrew also urged the people of Eastern province to ensure that they hold on to MMD, the party his father headed. He is also reported to have called for an Indaba for the people of Eastern province to deliberate on current political situation in the country.
