Police capture Mukobeko escapees

POLICE in Chipata have captured two notorious prisoners who escaped from lawful custody at Mukobeko Maximum Security Prison in Kabwe.

Eastern Province deputy police commissioner Alfred Nawa said police apprehended Shadreck Sada Phiri, who was jailed for murder and aggravated robbery and Derrick Mwape, also jailed for murder.

Nawa said the two were captured from Luangeni village in Paramount Chief Mpezeni’s area around midnight on Friday.

He said Mwape, 31, who hails from chief Chitina’s area in Mkushi, had already served nine years at Mukobeko, while Phiri, 38, of Kayeka village in chief Mpezeni’s area in Chipata, had served five to six years for the subject offences.

“These guys have been hiding at Luangeni village and another nearby village. These guys could shift in between the two villages”we have been on the lookout and we put our informers. So Derrick was seen within Luangeni village and we were informed of that and we apprehended him.
