President Michael Sata has warned Members of Parliament from his party – Patriotic Front (PF) that they risked losing elections if they did not keep in touch with the people and listened to their concerns.

Commenting on the humiliating defeat of his party by the opposition in the just ended Mkaika parliamentary by-election, President Sata said the people of that Constituency have exercised their democratic right and made their choice of who should represent them in parliament.

In the previous set of by-election, PF only managed to win one seat out of four.

The President has however advised the opposition to be as magnanimous as the PF in accepting defeat instead of always crying foul and unfairly scandalising the country’s electoral process each time they lost elections. He said he hopes the opposition will also congratulate the PF once it emerges victorious in future elections.

President Sata has also reaffirmed the PF’s commitment to democracy as well as free, fair and credible elections.

The Head of State said this in a press statement released in Lusaka on Friday, September 6, 2013 by his Spokesperson George Chellah.
