NGOCC condemns Defense Minister GBM as he differs with his Gender counterpart

The Non Government organization Coordinating council [NGOCC] has condemned Defense Minister, Geoffrey Mwamba over his utterances that beating a wife is a sign of love.

NGOCC Board Chairperson, Beatrice Grillo said its regrets the Ministers statement especially that it was made at a very important event organized by the Brother For life Campaign which is aimed at getting men’s support against Gender Based Violence.

She said it was also unfortunate that the remarks were coming from a very senior ranking government official who should be implementing the Anti GBV act number 1 of 2011.

Grillo said such remarks derails progressive efforts by forward looking men that re keen in supporting Ant GBV campaign in society.

The NGOCC Board chairperson said this in a statement to the Zambian Eye on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Gender Minister; Inonge Wina said beating of a wife is not a sign a sign of love in any Zambian culture.

She said the remarks attributed by her defense counterpart are misleading.

Wina said contrary Zambian culture teaches people to take care of widows, love their partners.
