Former opposition UPND Member of Parliament Howard Sikwela has said people who thought he had been abandoned by the Patriotic Front government were mistaken.

Rev. Sikwela said his critics thought after he resigned from UPND as MP that was going to be the end of his public life. He said he is happy that such people have been proved wrong by his new appointment as Permanent Secretary for Local Government Ministry.

He has pledged not to let President Sata down by working hard and deliver to the best of his ability.

President Sata Thursday morning, September 19, 2013, swore in Rev. Sikwela as Permanent Secretary. He said the Ministry assigned to Rev. Sikwela was important and urged the ex-MP to work hard.

The President said having served as a Minister of Local Government, he understands the Ministry well and hoped Sikwela will use his skills to deliver to the expectation of the Zambian people.

Rev. Sikwela takes over from Dr. Chileshe Mulenga who has been moved to Eastern province in the same capacity. Betty Mushala who was the PS for Eastern province has been transferred to Southern province while the PS there Bernard Machila has been retired on national interest.

Last week President Sata swapped Amos Malupenga with Emmanuel Mwamba as PS for Western province and Ministry of Information respectively.

Commentators have complained of the continuous changing of Permanent Secretaries and Ministers saying it does not provide time for people to settle down on their jobs.
