Mutesa commends Lungu for apologising to Banyangandora

ZAMBIANS for Empowerment and Development president Dr Fred Mutesa has commended home affairs minister Edgar Lungu for humbling himself in seeking forgiveness from Fr Viateur Banyangandora of Lundazi over last year’s deportation ordeal.

In an interview on Sunday, Dr Mutesa said leaders were human beings who were fallible.

Fr Banyangandora was deported by the government last August over a sermon which did not go well with the government as it was believed it was meant to incite the people to rise against it.

The government later revoked the deportation order after much protest by the Catholic Church.

“This is as it should be. Leaders are human beings who are fallible. Therefore, admitting one’s failures is a mark of strength. We are confident that this act will bring healing between the Government and the Catholic Church and put to rest this sad episode in the relations between two important institutions in the nation,” Dr Mutesa said.
